Larebeke: Epulum Linguarum
Epulum Linguarum by Jacobus Xaverius van Larebeke (1603)
As the full title explains: Epulum linguarum, et apposita ad singula fercula varia condimenta: ex sacris ac profanis authoribus deprompta. What a great metaphor! The fercula are poems, and the condimenta are commentaries on the poems. The subjects are the different kinds of tongues: in linguam temere accusatricem, in linguam adulatoriam, in linguam amarulentam, etc. It doesn't look like I will find any distichs in here, but what an absolutely delightful book!
