Aler: Gradus ad Parnassum
Gradus ad Parnassum by Paul Aler (1816)
There are many different editions of the Gradus ad Parnassum (for more information, see Wikipedia); this one is from 1816, 673 pages in length, and with a good, clear scan at Google Books. As the full title explains: Gradus ad Parnassum, sive Novus synonymorum, epithetorum, versuum, ac phrasium poeticarum Thesaurus, in quo singulis syllabis sunt Notae quantitatis indices, una cum poetarum testimoniis ordine alphabetico adiunctis; addita sunt genera, et incrementa omnia nominum, ac verborum praeterita et supina. The book is specifically designed as an aid to verse composition, but the synonym lists make it extremely valuable for prose composition also!
